Mt Rosa Wines

Gibbston

Situated in Gibbston with the Kawarau River and Mt Rosa as its borders, this tasting room and restaurant honours its first home in the sheep shed up the road.

The challenge was to translate the character of the original shed into a much bigger, fit-for-purpose space. Materials are honest, warm and as local (the light shades are woven from vineyard prunings) as possible. The fire is huge, tasting bench big enough to dance on, and the vegetable garden has invited itself on to the verandah. There is a private dining space for special occasions. Mt Rosa is a generous space, it gives a lot to all the senses.

We wanted the interior to match the warmth and spirit the proprietors have instilled in their wines, their food and their people.
